I was walking down a street in Brooklyn late at night, I’d come from a basement where the most wild and beautiful assortment of people had shared some deeply personal and powerful stories. I was in the city to visit my daughter, all grown up, and me still growing up. I looked at the shadowy figures up ahead, silhouetted by the sparse traffic at this late hour, what was at first fear became the realisation they’re just another version of me, going about their business, and I’m that figure in the sparse headlights coming toward them too. I’d leant my guitar to a friend to give to the king of surf for a recording session in the city, it came back in mint condition after their studio time and I started plucking it in my daughters apartment. This song, Worth Waiting For, just fell out of it. The gratitude to be there with her, as equals and as friends, the new found fear remover by seeing myself in all others, the passion to live again in a world that can look so troubled but it just so damn beautiful, this feeling, this moment in life, it’s so worth waiting for.
