‘California state of mind’ was written about finding your own freedom.

I was feeling stuck and a little trapped in Adelaide. A bitterness was forming. We had just come back from the US and I was perceiving the difference between somewhere like Adelaide and somewhere like ‘the big smoke’ on the other side of the world.

I came to realise the mental perimeters we find ourselves in might not be fixed by up and leaving to the other side of the world, as the most satisflying state of freedom and abundance comes from within.

You don’t have to be in one of the most hyped cities of the world to have the belief, confidence & happiness you imagine it to be, and that you deserve. In fact more often than not it wouldn’t meet your expectations, where as the happy place in your mind never lets you down, and it creates worlds and pathways as vast as Hollywood.

So in this song, California merely represents an idea of ‘anything can happen if you go for it’ which is true always, whether in California or Adelaide.
