Low Pressure Sound System drifts at the edge of land and sea—a living, breathing collaboration where music, surf, and story become one. Guided by Shannon Sol Carroll and OJ Newcomb of Band of Frequencies, it is less a band and more a movement—where tide and tone meet, and creation is a response to the swell.
Born from the creation of the iconic Life Like Liquid film and soundtrack, Low Pressure Sound System is a collective of musicians, surfers, and sonic explorers who have grown from the deep roots of Low Pressure Productions. The lineup shifts with the tides—each show a unique constellation of artists, drawing on the diverse backgrounds of its members.
Whether it leans into the heavy roots and psychedelic soul of Band of Frequencies, the uplifting indigenous electronica of OKA, Dave Rastovich’s ambient oceanic journeys, Winnie Coopers’ Aussie hip-hop flavors, or King Tide’s reggae, dub and ragamuffin vibrations, the sound is fluid, ever-evolving. A mash-up of spirit and sound. It all depends who’s on the gig, and what the gig is.
The live project is as much a visual experience as a sonic one. In their Cinematic Experience, Low Pressure Sound System crafts live soundtracks to breathtaking surf and nature footage—responding in real time with spacious ambience, rolling basslines, pulsing rhythms, and washes of colour and tone. Each performance is improvised in conversation with the film—offering audiences a deep immersion into the spirit of place, sea, and sound.
Featuring collaborators like Terepai Richmond (The Whitlams, DIG), Chris Lane, Stu Fergie (OKA), Bobby Alu, Ash Grunwald, and Angus Stone, alongside surfing icons such as Dave Rastovich and Chris Del Moro, the project invites communion—with each other, with the Earth, and with the stories the ocean sings.
Low Pressure Sound System is more than a show—it’s a ceremony. A call to remember our connection to nature, to each other, and to the wild, living soundtrack that moves beneath us all.
