Who is Dustyn?
Known for his previous work as the frontman of beloved South Australian blues-rock band WANDERERS, Dustyn has been one of the brilliant minds and creative forces behind tracks like ‘O My Back’, which on its own sits at over 1.5 million streams on Spotify.
Recently performing under the name for the first time at the 2024 Adelaide Guitar Festival, Dustyn was met with a standing ovation at the end of his performance at the Dunstan Playhouse.
As the first release under his new solo project of Dustyn, and the first song written for the upcoming Midnight Movements EP, ‘Right Where You Are’ sets the stage for a body of work that promises to be both introspective and profound. This release showcases Dustyn’s distinctive ability to fuse genres and evoke deep emotional responses, establishing a new benchmark for his evolving artistry.
Growing up two hours south of Adelaide, no one ever called me that, unless I was in trouble.
But for the first moments of my life, before the universe put its finger prints on me and set me off on a course, I was Dustyn.
A small sponge, a potato even, experiencing life as it happened and nothing more. Curious about the whole thing with no resistance & no expectations. No opinions, no doubts. Tasting the stew for the first time. A kid, experiencing the beginnings of feelings that would eventually become happiness, fear, sadness, love and a plethora of confusing yet inspiring things that would ignite ideas and eventually music.
Fast forward to 2020 during some very dark months where much like everyone else, I was isolated. With my 4 year old daughter asleep in the next room I would stay awake contemplating insomnia driven, but necessary thoughts and resolutions.I let go of a lot. Learned to salute the past and welcome the future. I felt a renewed sense of the world and my place in it, with a similar naivety and excitement as Dustyn did as a kid.
These songs came out of these times, effortlessly, like I’d finally figured out how to turn the tap on.
These felt personal. So for the first time ever, I decided I wanted these songs for myself.
They weren’t even Dusty’s.
They were mine, and mine alone. My midnight movements.
