Katie wrote Melancholy four years ago after returning to Australia following an extended period of travelling, wandering, and learning while living life on the road and sea. The song was born in her mother’s home in Adelaide, during a time when the post-travel blues collided with feelings of loneliness, resulting in this haunting and evocative melody.

Reflecting on the song, Katie shares:
*”I wrote this during a time of depression, envisioning what it might feel like to be free—free from the heaviness of my thoughts and the numbness of loneliness. Travelling alone for so long taught me invaluable lessons about myself and the art of self-reliance. But coming home and slipping back into the ‘norm’’ left me feeling alienated, disconnected, and far from belonging.
Many people interpret this song as being about a lover, but it’s truly about the spirit—our inner spirit of self-love and the yearning to break free from societal expectations. My hope is that listeners can lose themselves in the melody, connect with it deeply, and let it transport them to a different place.”*

To bring Melancholy to life visually, Katie collaborated with talented videographer Wade Gardiner from Movement Productions. Together, they filmed the music video along the rugged, breathtaking coastline of South Australia.

Katie describes the process:
“The scenery perfectly captured the soul of this song—wide open spaces, natural earthy tones, and a serene silence. It all felt so fitting. We were incredibly lucky with the weather on the day; the light was flawless at every location, and it truly felt like magic, as though it was meant to be. Wade’s work brought Melancholy to life in such a beautiful way.”

Although the song’s audio recording was never fully completed due to circumstances beyond Katie’s control, the song and its video sat on the shelf for months, gathering dust. But Katie felt that Melancholy—unfinished or not—deserved to be heard and felt. And so, she made the decision to share it with the world.

Katie hopes that Melancholy resonates deeply with listeners, offering them a moment of connection, reflection, and freedom.

Melancholy Lyrics

Oh I want to run through the forest with you,

I want to bathe with you under the moon,

Please tell me that I am the one,

That you’ll forever want to love.

So come with me my dear

Let’s get Away from here,

So come with my dear,

And be free from all of our fears.

Take me somewhere far away from here,

To a place where I will have no fears,

To a nice big space where I can spread my wings

And let go all of this anxiety,

Can we get away from society,

So Come with me my dear

Let’s get away from here,

So come with my dear,

And be free from all of our fears.

Be free from all of our fears

Let’s get away from here

Just you can I under the stars

Sending our melancholy au revoir

Sending their melancholy au revoir

So come with me dear…..Lets get away from here..
